The government of Colombian president Abelardo de la Espriella announced a shock plan to resolve the national health system crisis.

On 26 October 2026, the same administration revoked Resolution 0961, which had designated the Colombian Amazon as a permanent reserve.

Also on 26 October, de la Espriella appointed retired colonel Luis Alfonso Plazas Vega as Colombia's ambassador to Peru.

Former Colombian president Ernesto Samper described Lula as 'the Pelé of Latin American progressivism' in remarks filed that day.

Former Bogotá mayor Claudia López posted a mocking message targeting de la Espriella after Lula won the Brazilian presidential election on 25 October.
